McGalla’s career began back in 1986 when she started working at Joseph Home Company. While there, she served in different managerial and marketing positions till 1994. It is in the same year that she joined American Eagle Outfitters, where she worked as the divisional merchandise buyer for women wears. She also worked in several managerial roles in the company before becoming its Chief Merchandising Officer and its President. As the President of the company, she superintended the launch of its aerie and 77 kids’ brands.
Susan left American Eagle Outfitters in January 2009 after which she became a private consultant for the financial investment and retail industries. She was accepted by the Board of Directors of HFF Inc. in 2009. Susan succeeded Ed Thomas as the C.E.O of Wet Seal Inc. in January 2011. She left Wet Seal to go and start P3 Executive Consulting.
Susan McGalla also worked as the Vice President for Pittsburgh Steelers in Creative Development and Business Strategy. Also, she serves on the board of Magee Women’s Hospital Research Institute and Foundation. At Allegheny Conference on Community Development, Susan serves as a Director.
Being a Leader and a Woman
Having been brought up in a family of two older brothers, and a football coach for a father who did not give her any special treatment just because she was a girl, taught her to work hard and showcase her ideas with certainty. Gender was never considered a factor to her when working toward her goals.
