There is no doubting the popularity of New York Fashion Week. And recently, the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California held it’s 21st runway in New York City to showcase talent from some of their students in the design program.
The event was held in September 2017 at Skylight Clarkson Square.
There, the San Francisco students showed up to debut their talent in front of a sophisticated New York audience. The students come from diverse backgrounds and have worked tirelessly to be the new future of fashion. This runway was also live-streamed online to show off their work proudly across the globe.
Some of the students who came to showcase their design collections include Jelly Shan, Ryan Yu, Cana Klebanoff and Joanna Jadallah. All students were BFA and MFA graduates. There were womenswear lines, menswear lines, and one collaboration between students was also launched at this event, too.
The Academy of Art University was founded in 1929.
Since then, this University has seen tens of thousands of future fashion designers, movie producers, video game developers, photographers, architects, graphic designers, and more. Some students have even gone on to work for such prestigious companies like Apple, Google, Electronic Arts, or Starbucks.
Its original name was the Academy of Advertising Art.
This school was created at first for art in advertisements, but they expanded their course material throughout the years. The university was founded by Richard S. Stephens, a magazine editor, and painter. It is a for-profit school and they annually enroll over 12,000 students each year with programs both at their campus and courses also offered online.
The University also offers other programs.
The Academy of Art University offers continuing education for adults to increase their skills, pre-college classes for high school students to get a jump start, and opportunities to study abroad in Europe.
